A famous novel can fall short, too: in its characters, its language, or the story it tells.

Those are the books we want to examine. Our standard is to explain the judgment, not simply announce that a book is bad.

Start with the pages. Ground criticism in passages, chapters, and the book’s actual argument. Do not judge a whole work from a viral quotation.

Match the test to the book. Check evidence and reasoning in nonfiction. Examine language, character, structure, and execution in fiction.

Give credit where it is due. A weak book can contain a useful idea. A book that disappoints one reader may serve another. Explain both.

Keep the verdict accountable. Separate factual errors from interpretation and taste. Correct mistakes, disclose relevant commercial relationships, and never invent reading experience.

About ReadPaperback

ReadPaperback is an independent book criticism site for readers who want more than a recommendation list. We examine books across genres, with particular attention to the gap between their reputation and what they actually offer.

The aim is practical: help you decide what deserves your attention, what you can skip, and which celebrated ideas deserve a second look.

Read closely. Question the praise. Make up your own mind.

Looking for the former Paperback reading app?
